[PER] коллекция старинных японских карт
умопомрачительной красоты коллекция старинных японских карт! и не только японии - здесь, например, показан (вполне уместный в данном журнале) кусок средней азии, и там такого добра много. линк с куска ведёт на искомый сайт, где, кстати, ещё несколько других достойных картографических коллекций, да и не только картографических.
но взад к японии - ну супер красиво! совершенно другая культура рисования, особенно на старинных картах. карты можно рассматривать часами - любые, конечно, но эти особенно (ещё и потому, что многие довольно глубоко зуммируются).
иероглифы, которые для меня ничего не означают, а просто становятся семантической частью рельефа; совершенно "некартовые" цвета; характерная для японских гравюр многослойная трёхмерность - всё это в приложении к картам создаёт эффект эстетического "удара под дых"; то есть, когда сказать уже ничего не получается, а только остаётся хватать воздух и мычать.
и да, когда же кто-нибудь додумается привертеть к таким вот шедеврам раскиновкий зум? :((

[Btw, the link from the picture leads to the site with the map collections, and this one is from the 'Japanese Historical Maps'. They are all fascinating!]
I am not sure that the colors here directly correspond to the nation-state borders; and also, I don't fully understand how they divided Central Asia - at least, the division is VERY different from what is (was) accepted at this time by the Western cartographers.
I sense strong influence of Chinese cartography - the (green) border of China is drown in exactly the way Chenese always WANTED it to be drown, up untill Balkhash Lake and Osh Valley of today.

Quite cool.

And Russians, too. I don't see a division between the Khiva and Bukhara khanates, for instance. Chinese influence does make sense, particularly at this early stage in the country's development.
