gosh, that's the question; it was ages ago when i made this one. now, if i remember, in the old interface the picture like that (dimmed userpic + this wording) used to appear when you tried to post a new posting. I took this idea and made a userpic resembling it.
you may not notice, but for example i use my cynical camel for critical postings, and mad cow for somewhat 'lyrical' ones; i guess my use of this one correlates with the postings where i can't or don't want to assign my 'judgment'
it's good to see other people care about their icons. we've been doing this for a long time, so they were bound to eventually be important to us.
all my images are now very old to me, but i still think of each as a little special, and i still can explain what kind of entries most of them are generally intended to accompany.
this is my high five icon. i use it for friends or when good people do good things.
