I have the digital rebel as well, but can never seem to get the good closeups I got with my other camera... do you use the lens that came with the kit?
oh, yes, i forgot about lenses... no, i also have sigma 28-70/2.8 and canon 75-300 with a stabilizer.
it's good to have a macro function; i don't. but may be even more important is to have a good tripod - stable, heavy piece. then you can make a miracle - light allowing :)
