фрагмент инсталляции abigail reynolds; помимо общей своей красивости, композиция имеет ещё и Большой Смысл - это, пардон, визуальная репрезентация криминальной статистики южного лондона за 2002 год (по-моему).

так-то - гис гисом, ничего особенного; но дикая неравномерность распределения вместе со значением всех этих ущелий и пиков действуют сильно. одно слово - искусство. под катом - вся композиция:

"this is a fragment of a piece of contemporary art, by abigail reynolds [here's the link]; beside its general beauty, it also have the Big Meaning - in fact, this is a visual representation of the criminal statistics for south-east london in 2002". [that's why it's called 'mounts of fear'; the steeper the slopes, the more crimes committed]

"well, in principle it is a ordinary gis [=geographical information system]; nevertheless, such a wild unevenness of the distribution together with its meaning really shocks. well, that's the point of art."

[few other postings in my journal also show the map she created for our own city in holland, including one of the sexual crimes; it's also very revealing and shocking. the last one, 'white', with the quote on prime numbers, is birmingham, if i remember.]
