Cell-Phone Camera Snoop Ban Advances in Congress

"The House Judiciary Committee approved a bill on Wednesday that would outlaw "upskirt" photos and other forms of video voyeurism made possible by cell-phone cameras and other miniaturized technology. The bill, which passed the Senate last September, would prohibit taking covert pictures in locker rooms, bedrooms and other places where people have a reasonable expectation of privacy.

Violators would face fines and up to a year in prison under the Video Voyeurism Prevention Act, which passed the committee by voice vote.

Lawmakers say cell-phone cameras and tiny surveillance devices allow peeping toms to secretly take pictures in compromising situations.

Pornographic Web sites advertise "upskirt" pictures of unsuspecting women on escalators or other public places. Some gyms have banned cell phones or cameras because of the problem.

The committee also voted to boost prison terms for identity thieves and those who use fraudulent information to set up Web sites used to commit felonies and trademark abuse." ***

Откуда взялось выражение "peeping toms"? Ага, нашлось довольно интересное объяснение.

И ещё - "compromising situations": compromising здесь (да и вообще в Западной традиции) имеет очевидно негативный смысл, в отличие от Голландии, например, где достижение компромиса - основная и цель, и награда.

 

Да, кстати, а как она с такими ногтями может пользоваться всеми этими кнопками и колёсиками? Здесь кто-нибудь есть с ногтями (или ex-ногтями?), кто мог бы прокомментировать?
