Newsmap is an application that visually reflects the constantly changing landscape of the Google News news aggregator. A treemap visualization algorithm helps display the enormous amount of information gathered by the aggregator. Treemaps are traditionally space-constrained visualizations of information. Newsmap's objective takes that goal a step further and provides a tool to divide information into quickly recognizable bands which, when presented together, reveal underlying patterns in news reporting across cultures and within news segments in constant change around the globe.

на самом сайте Newsmap есть несколько примеров treemaps; но визуально это всё равно не карты никакие, конечно. была в своё время программа, которая действительно рисовал карты новостей, полностью используя все географические метафоры (расстояния, высоты, рельеф местности); сдулась куда-то, хотя успела во все соответствующие книжки войти.

Но у нас руки тоже не совсем оттуда, и вообще. Ну, у меня, по крайней мере, точно.

Заголовки живые и настоящие, совпадают с новостями на news.google.com.
Мне очень понравилось. Хотя идея проста и не нова: в видео-лентах биржевых/трейдерских новостей важые события выделяются очень крупным шрифтом. Надо отдать должное, тут идея развивается очень здорово. Лишние ряды убирать можно. Вот правда пока не знаю, как с дополнительными настройками (градации размеров шрифтов, цвета, персональная релевантность). Ну и конечно Россию/СНГ туда бы добавить (в список стран) было бы ну очччень здорово.

Date: 2004-04-04 12:22 pm (UTC)идею ясно что не он придумал, но у него работает, и неплохо. все добавления/улчушения можно, я думаю, с ним обсудить, если есть интерес. предполагаю, что будущем у него появится более широкие возможности для подгонки под каждого юзера.

Date: 2004-04-04 03:37 pm (UTC)and another one is those little colorful bars - they belong to a different system; these are markers, the tags which allow you to, well, tag your records.
you can hoover over the bars to also see the 'names' of the tags; and eventually you can click and see the whole system.
well, the system is russian - but there is a lot of things in it in english as well, so the chance is big that you can get the point.
you can also always ask
it is very simple, yet also very helpful in managing information in your lj.
and it's nice :)
