It's awful. Such a naive invasion into one's mind, childish demand of being responsive. Unjustifiable expectation that being member of the community means providing access to your internal world.

It reminds me of some fiction stories, people were judged for crimes against humanity like not smiling back or appear closeted.

Obviously, it is a consumer society around, so you should smile to be consumed with pleasure.
