Pedestrians walk past the Oriental Pearl Tower, one of the famous landmarks in Shanghai. Shanghai, the birthplace of Communist Party of China in 1921, is now the country's financial capital. The Chinese Communist Party will hold its 16th congress on November 8 to choose a new generation of leaders to replace President Jiang Zemin and Premier Zhu Rongji who were both promoted from Shanghai.
