It reinds me, I have a dream to take the old Silk Road someday. I missed my chance to do it a few years ago, but I hope someday . . .

i knew people who arrange silk road trips, at least central asian part. it was long ago, but i can try to track them back, if needed.

last year i wrote about an interesting project, by mercedez-benz, to travel along the silk way; they have a collection of nice photos from the trip.

wrt to your 'silk road' plans, there a community, c_a_j, which is supposed to cover (talk about & explore) the central asian 'things'. it's not very active though, but from time to time there are interesting stories/pictures popping up there.
